The MCDS Dance Club Celebrates its 7th year!
We have grown from a core group of seven 2nd and 3rd graders to a club of 46+ students ranging from Pre-K through 9th grade. The Middle School Dance Club toured to New York City this past Spring for an educational and inspiring 5 day/4 night arts adventure to the Dance Capitol of the World. Broadway, Opera, Jazz, Lincoln Center Library, the dance conservatory at SUNY Purchase, Luigi Jazz Dance Center, Broadway Dance Center and a special MCDS Dance Club performance were all on the itinerary. The club enjoyed performing at the Intrepid Museum, attending the Opera, “An American In Paris”, the Blue Man Group and an evening of Jazz at Birdland. A visit to the world renowned arts conservatory at Purchase College in Westchester County complimented dance classes as the legendary Luigi Jazz Dance Center, Broadway Dance Center and with master modern teacher Judith Moss. All MCDS students are invited to join the Dance Club. We invite you all to come and see us perform this Winter at our annual Fine Arts Week assembly!
Madison Country Day School Dance Club
In addition to our preparations for and our participation in the annual MCDS Fine Arts Week dance performance, the MCDS Dance Club explores a range of movement styles throughout the year. The dancers learn portions of the classic Luigi Jazz Dance Technique as the club’s technical base infused with explorations into improvisation, classical and contemporary modern dance dynamics, ballet technique, rhythm work, pertinent anatomy/physiology and identification of significant American choreographers.
Dianné Jean Aldrich returned to Madison after 14 years of professional dance in New York City and abroad. She is a master teacher of the Luigi Jazz Dance Technique, is a guest teacher for the UW-Madison Dance Department, BFA graduate from the SUNY Purchase Dance Conservatory, Thayer Fellowship in the Arts Recipient and is the owner of 4Pillars4Health EcoSpace, Llc., an Integrated Wellness, Dance, Yoga and fully equipped Pilates studio in Monona, WI.
